“My placement at The Smart Group was an invaluable experience, which gave me great insight into the events industry. From the first day, the entire team were very welcoming and supportive, which made me feel right at ease and reassured me that I had chosen the right company to undertake a placement with. Working in the operations team really grew my confidence, as I was quickly trusted with executing client food tastings and supporting other operations managers at events.

This allowed me to develop a strong understanding of the event process from sales, planning and operations to seeing the event come together on the day. The highlight from my placement year was being a part of the team delivering the sporting events across the summer, one including the Monaco Grand Prix.

To see the journey from the initial food tasting to the planning, operations and delivery of the event was incredibly rewarding and also inspiring. I cannot thank the company enough for the amazing experience.

The hands-on experience I gained at The Smart Group not only helped me execute my own event but also benefited me in my final year of university. Being on-site at events sparked my interest in analysing consumption behaviours at events, which shaped the focus of my dissertation study.

Even now, as a postgraduate, I chose to work alongside Moving Venue/The Smart Group, as I truly believe in both the people and the diverse range of events that make it such a great company. I would definitely recommend working here for your placement year.”

“Placement Years are incredibly important within the events industry. They give students who are studying event management or hospitality the opportunity to gain real, hands-on experience in a fast-paced, operational environment that simply can’t be replicated in a classroom.

Working for Moving Venue offers a particularly unique perspective. Our placement students are exposed to a vast range of venues and event styles — from intimate dinners at the Tower of London to major large-scale events such as the British Grand Prix. This breadth of experience allows them to understand the diversity, complexity and excitement of our industry.

Just as importantly, placement years are about nurturing and developing the next generation of talent. We invest significant time in training, mentoring and integrating students into our teams so they are not just observing, but actively contributing and building confidence.

For us, it’s a long-term commitment. We see placement students as future leaders within the industry, and we are proud that many return to work with us once they have completed their degrees — bringing back enhanced knowledge, maturity and a deeper understanding of the business”

“My placement at Moving Venue was so amazing, and I learnt so much. I enjoyed being sent to so many events, learning all the different ways that events are run, and I loved that I was never made to feel any type of way when I asked questions; everyone was so willing to teach me. Especially from the ops team, they were so amazing and willing to teach me.

The main thing I enjoyed at MV was being on events and getting to do all types of roles, and I believe I was taught so much about events from such a brilliant company, and I thank you for every opportunity I got.”
