How to Make Steps Toward Being More Sustainable

Sustainable ways to introduce being green to your event; vegan dishes, food waste donations and more.

A growing issue across all industries

Sustainability is a hot topic across with initiatives being introduced across all industries to help move towards a greener (and cooler) world.

With an increasing number of clients looking to ensure their events are in-keeping with their corporate sustainability policy, we are here to give you a few ideas on how to make your 2022 conference a little greener!

Vegan Dishes

More than 25% of greenhouse gas emissions contributing to climate change are linked to farming, and especially livestock.

At Moving Venue, we fully support any clients looking to swap the wagyu for tofu. For example, one forward-thinking client asked us to create a vegan menu for their conference buffet, ‘Future Foods for a stronger world.’

Our wonderful chefs absolutely rose to the challenge, bringing together some of our favourite superfoods to create the dishes below;

Baked puy lentil & aubergine moussaka (vg)

Spicy Israeli couscous cake with tomato, oregano, and chilli sauce (vg)

Charred broccoli & radish salad on zoug spiced kamut & toasted seeds (vg)

Celeriac steaks, date molasses, pickled kohlrabi (vg)

Plan Zheroes

Food Waste

We believe that reducing food waste is paramount to making the hospitality industry more sustainable. With conference lunches often limited on timings as part of a wider schedule, these events offer the perfect opportunity to take advantage of key food waste prevention initiatives.

For example, Plan Zheroes are a charitable food donation platform. They help food businesses easily and safely donate their surplus food to nearby charities and community groups who can use it – a great way to reduce waste and help others in need.

Somerset House

Carbon Neutral Venues

Many venues across the capital are introducing creative initiatives in an effort to make their conference and event spaces as environmentally friendly as possible with the ultimate aim of becoming carbon neutral.

Leading the way, the iconic Somerset House installed a new combined cooling, heating and power plant in 2016 which, by 2018, produced 49% of all electricity at the venue. Equally, Earth Day Season is a keenly anticipated highlight of the venue’s cultural calendar, promoting collective action on the global climate crisis. Somerset House were recognised for their dedication to sustainability and green initiatives by the Creative Green certification, improving their rating from 3* to 4*.

As a popular venue for conferences in the capital, these initiatives go a long way to offsetting the carbon footprint of event production and energy consumption, making it an exceptional choice for your 2022 event.

Please do get in touch today if you would like to explore hosting a more sustainable event at one of our incredible venues.
